What is Herbal medicine ?

Herbal medicine has been a trusted form of healthcare for centuries.

It is created from medicinal plants (Herbs), which are processed to harness their active constituents. The parts of plants which are primarily used are leaves, roots, flowers and resins.

 

Herbal medicine practitioners prescribe various forms of herbal preparations, including herbal teas, tinctures, and topical creams.

What can herbal medicine help you with?

Herbal medicine can help with a range of health conditions, spanning from chronic to acute. 

These include, but are not limited too:

  • Menopause and Menstrual disorders, including painful periods, irregular periods, PMS and endometriosis

  • Emotional disorders, such as stress, anxiety and mild to moderate depression.

  • Acute and chronic pain conditions - Arthritis, migraines, joint pain and inflammation.

Herbal Tea Preparation

What are the offered preparations of Herbal medicine and how to take them?

At Edava Botanics we offer various forms of herbal medicine made to suit each individual case.

  • Herbal tinctures

  • Herbal teas and Decoctions

  • Herbal powder blends

  • Topical creams and oils

  • Capsules

  • Pessaries + Suppositories 

There are lots of different forms of Herbal medicine, however below are the most commonly prescribed.

Herbal tincture: These are liquid extracts of herbs. The herbs are extracted in water and alcohol. In a prescribed tincture, you will usually have about 5-7 different herbs in your blend. The tincture will usually be prescribed to take 2-3 times per day and you will be given a measuring cup to measure out 5ml or 7.5ml per day. 

​

Herbal teas: Your herbal blend will contain a variety of different herbs, blended together for you to brew in a mug or teapot. The dosage of herbs vary, but you usually drink about three mugs per day. 

​
